This section lists up questions that are likely asked by users while using KNS and their answers.

Question Answer
Q
1
During visual scan, some frequencies are not scanned. How can I correct the problem? Since the network has delays so that all frequencies can not be scanned. The user can set the interval time for visual scan to be longer duration.
Q
2
I cannot satisfy the sound quality. Can I improve the sound quality? The user cannot improve the sound quality since it is the specification of H.323. We recommend the user not to use the KNS if he/she cares the sound quality of the KNS.
The user must check that his/her PC satisfies with the environment required in its OS. He/she must also check that he/she does not connect to the KNS with dial-up connection.
Q
3
There are delays occurred in transmitted voice and operations. Although I moved sliding bars, such as AF VOL, the operations are neglected. This problem occurs due to delays in network. The delay time lengthens when traffic is busy.

Audio signals are not accepted by the host PC. The user must check that the wiring for the audio interface cable is correct.
  • Check whether the audio signals are routed via the MIC + EXTSP terminal or the DATA terminal of the transceiver.
When the DATA terminal is selected:
    • Confirm that input/output level is correctly selected in Menu Nos. 46 and 47.
When the MIC + EXPSP terminal is selected:
    • Confirm that the AF level is appropriate.
    • Confirm that the microphone gain level is appropriate.
    Checking a PC:
    • Confirm that it emits sound from a PC.
    • Update the sound card driver.
  • Enter the received voice signals from a transceiver to a PC and activate the "Record control" window. Confirm that the terminal to which the microphone is connected is enabled and its volume level is good. Display the "Play control" display and disable the mute function of the connected terminal. Check that the volume level is appropriate and it soudns from the speaker, which is connected to the PC. After confirming that the PC outputs sound, check the "Mute" checkbox.
  • Confirm that the OS is a supported.
  • Confirm that the "Voice" checkbox is checked in the ARHP-10.
  • Confirm that KNS operates in LAN environment when using WAN.
  • Check the configuration of communication devices and ISP when using the KNS via WAN. (The user is required to remove a router, etc.)
  • Confirm that "VOICE KNS" lights on the ARCP-480 display. When it does not light, check the OS version and the network environment (including ISP).

Audio signals are not accepted in the remote PC. The user must check that the wiring for the audio interface cable is correct in host PC.
  • Check whether the audio signals are routed via the MIC + EXTSP terminal or the DATA terminal of transceivre)
    When DATA terminal is selected:
    • Confirm that input/output level is correctly selected in Menu Nos. 46 and 47.(Normally, a remote PC user does not check input/out level.)
When MIC + EXPSP terminals are selected:
    • Confirm that the AF level is appropriate.
    • Confirm that the microphone gain level is appropriate.
    Checking a PC:
    • Confirm that it sounds from a PC.
    • Update the sound card driver.
  • Connect a microphone to a PC and display the "Record" frame. Confirm that the terminal to which the microphone is connected is activated and its volume level. Activate the "Play control" display and check whether the level is appropriate after disabling the mute in the connected terminal and the speaker connected to the PC emits sound. After confirming that the PC emits sound, check the "Mute" checkbox.
  • Confirm that the OS installed is the OS supporting the voice communications.
  • Confirm that the "Voice" checkbox is checked in the host PC.
  • Confirm that the KNS works in the LAN environment when using it via WAN.

Transmitted/received voice is intermitted, distorted or too small.
  • Activate the "Play control" window and "Record control" window in the host remote PCs and adjust the volume level.
  • When the volume of the received voice is too small while using Line-in terminal as an input source in the host PC, change the terminal to Mic-In.
  • When the volume of the transmitted voice is too small or it is not modulated enough while using Line-out terminal as an output source in the host PC, change the terminal to SPK-Out.
Q

The VOX function does not work.
  • The user must check that the wiring for the audio interface cable in the host PC is correct.
  • Check the microphone volume control and the checkbox in a remote PC.
  • Check the WAVE control window in the host PC and confirm that the volume is not too low.
  • Check the voice line in the setup window of the ARCP.
(Select DTS when DATA line is selected in the host PC. Select PTT when the MIC line is selected.)
  • Confirm that the VOX function is enabled.
  • Check Menu No. 60.
(Select On when the DATA line is selected in the host PC. Select Off when the MIC line is selected.)
